When Mountain Warehouse were launching their new store in Norwich they reached out to me asking if I could help grab the attention of passers by, on what is undoubtedly Norwich’s busiest stretch of High street.
I knew the store was going to be an impressive retail space as the refurbishment seemed to never-ending with a flurry of workers grafting away whenever I walked past the Norwich city centre store on Haymarket – the building previously housed clothing retailer Topshop until their collapse.
Brand manager Paige was clear on what she wanted to achieve working with me:
A large striking presence outside the store nobody could miss.
Sturdy, safe and could not be tampered with.
Matched the company branding and colours.
Be in place before 9am and down by the end of the day.
My offer to Paige was a large spiral balloon arch with white and dark green latex balloons, installed using the Aeropole arch frame system which is incredibly strong and can withstand huge winds and being brushed against by eager or distracted shoppers.
With a 20 kg flat weighted plate on each side it cannot blow away, or be moved easily by the public – meaning the chances of public risk of harm from it failing are as close to zero as possible.
The stability of the frame makes it easy to achieve a uniform spiral pattern with the different latex balloon colours.
As you can imagine from the photos on the day of opening – the presence of the huge arch didn’t go unnoticed.
Speaking to the store manager on collection I learnt they’d attracted a large footfall of curious shoppers (who like me) had seen the store empty for some time and were eager to see what had been created.
